Why Clayton
When we first saw Clayton's Omaha World Herald's news article (July, 2004), we prayed for him and K.J. wanted to meet him. About a week later, we drove to meet Clayton. We picked up a little gift, made a few calls, and tracked him down at a Hy-vee store in Council Bluffs; he was selling tootsie rolls for the Boy Scouts!
We just fell in love with Clayton's spirit and stayed in touch and have become friends with the family. We've had good times at the zoo, Church outings, and holiday visits!
When KJ's Carts officially became a nonprofit in 2006, we chose to benefit burn victims and Clayton. As Clayton approached high school, we found that his school was looking to purchase a specialized computer and program so that he could use this in his home. Therefore, we held a fundraiser where thousands were donated and we were not only able to purchase that computer, but start a college trust fund. We continue to donate to burn victims and continue to contribute to Clayton's needs.
